US Department of Energy (March 2023): Producers might be able to achieve clean hydrogen costs of $1.50-2/kg by 2035. This forecast admitted that the previously stated goal of reducing the cost of clean H2 to $1/kg by 2031 is unlikely to be met.

Hydrogen Council/McKinsey (October 2022): Green hydrogen will be able to be produced in 2050 at under $1.15/kg $1.15/kg in the US, China, the Middle East, South America, Namibia and South Africa, but $1.80-2.50 in Europe, Japan and South Korea.

International Renewable Energy Agency (May/July 2022): The production cost of green hydrogen from solar and solar/onshore wind hybrid projects will fall below $1/kg for most regions by 2050 under optimistic scenarios, and to about $1.30/kg under pessimistic assumptions.

Chinese producers could achieve a levelised cost of hydrogen of just over $0.65/kg by 2050, Irena added, with Chile only marginally behind, and the US and Saudi Arabia achieving about $0.75-0.80/kg in an optimistic scenario.

Even in its most pessimistic scenario, China would still produce green H2 for about $1.10/kg by 2050, with Colombia at around $1.15/kg and Chile and Australia at about $1.20/kg.
